Matthew 8:23–26 NIV
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith,
why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves,
and it was completely calm.
It
is interesting that the storm came “without warning.” but it was no surprise to Jesus, he knew what was coming that night. We often go through seasons in our
lives when it seems like the Lord is asleep because nothing seems
to be happening on the spiritual front.
You see God never leaves us, He is always there but there are
times when He allows things to happen to strengthen us, He uses
situations and storms in our life to draw us closer to Him and bring us to maturity. We want Jesus to calm the storm, but He wants us to find Him in the midst of it.
Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat …. Frantically, they woke
Him up, shouting, 'Teacher, don't you even care that we are going to
drown?'' (Mark 4:38 )
''Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.'' (1 Peter 5:7)
You see when Jesus is in your boat, there is no storm that you have to face alone, there is no storm that can take you under.
You see when Jesus is in your boat, there is no storm that you have to face alone, there is no storm that can take you under.
Jesus knew the storm was coming so
why didn’t He simply intercede and prevent it from happening?
You see Jesus wanted to demonstrate the proper
way to respond when a storm arises in our lives.
1. He rested. We need to rest in Jesus understanding fully that He is in control
2. He was not afraid. He said we will go through the waters and not drown, he will keep us afloat.
3. He prayed and took authority and commanded it to stop. At the name Jesus even storms have to bow.
Even though the storms in life are often times unpredictable they have purpose, they move us out of our comfort zone into a miracle zone.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. | |||
( Isaiah 43:1-2) |
It is interesting to note that right after the enemy tried to drown Jesus and His disciples, several amazing miracles took place.
When the enemy attacks and you don't jump ship but stand firm, know that there is a blessing coming.Someone said, ''You've are either in a storm, about to be in a storm, or just coming out of a storm''
Here is what I want to communicate to you today: Storms will either make you or the storm will break you. The same sun that melts the wax hardens the clay.
Here is what I want to communicate to you today: Storms will either make you or the storm will break you. The same sun that melts the wax hardens the clay.
Be not afraid. Pray, believe and stand on the word.
You are what the Word says you are. You can do what the Word says you can do. You can have what the Word says you can have. Begin to believe that. Begin to say it out loud in faith
