Monday Readings - Excellence in Ministry

Excellence in Ministry by Robb Thompson

"Excellence is a journey, not a destination"- a journey to be pursued with passion, leading you to higher levels in ministry and in your walk with God than you ever dreamed possible!

In this book you are given principles from the word to help you answer God's call to the ministry with excellence.

Excellence begins with the person not the ministry and it is who you become, because its all about being and example to all believers.

Philippians 3:14 tells us that we are to press forward toward the mark for the prize of the high calling. We are not here on this earth to press for things that has no lasting value. We are called to press toward a higher level , toward a life of greater excellence in Him. This applies not only to your personal life but to your ministry as well.
Very often in ministry because we have done things one way we are not open to change, but we must embrace change and be relevant as we strive for a higher level of excellence less we become ineffective. Only the truth of God's word never changes

In our quest for excellence it is important that we do not make comparison with others because very often we do things that we are not called to, to please the people. When we try to operate outside of God we will meet with failure.

In the book of 1 Samuel God told Saul to completely destroy the Amalekite nation and all their possessions, but Saul obeyed only in part. He yielded to the pressure from the people to spare the Amalekite king and the best of the livestock., so God rejected him as king. He chose to disobey God.
Often times we find ourselves like Saul walking in disobedience to God's word for one reason or another. The truth of the matter is that when we do this we are not walking in excellence, only one thing we should be focused upon, what does the word say about this situation, not what the people say, its not about their opinion.

We are called to represent Jesus with excellence in our words, in relationships, in our attitudes, as a matter of fact in every area of our lives. Let the fruit of the spirit be evident in our lives

Monday Readings - Excellence in Character

Excellence in Character by Robb Thompson

The foundation of our life is Christ Jesus and we can only walk in excellence based on our godly character because character is the foundation of excellence

Our character is a reflection of who we really are and it is what gives us credibility.

A person of character considers moral strength of greater value than beauty, riches, or fame because they choose to live out their life by a higher standard. Character always starts out with a decision. You have to determine that you will be a person of character no matter what anyone else thinks because the decisions you make today will determines tomorrows circumstances. The seeds you sow today will determine what you reap tomorrow.

Every break down in life can be traced to a failure in character some where along the line. You must be willing to confront you before you try to confront the lack of character in someone else. you must be willing to do what is right and not what is comfortable because a person of character does what is right in obedience to God even if it means rejection from man. If I live my life to please God I should not allow myself to be affected or influenced by people.

The character of God is our example and we cannot go wrong if we use that as our measuring stick

Are you destined for greatness?

"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor."
(2 Timothy 2:20)

Are you destined for greatness in the kingdom of God?

Ask most believers that question and they'll humbly assure you they're not. "You know we can't all be golden vessels" they'll say. "Like the Bible says, some of us are just called to be little clay pots."

Praise God, the Bible doesn't say any such thing!

Certainly there are going to be some golden vessels in the kingdom and there are going to be some clay pots, but we are the ones--not God--who determine which kind we will be. Second Timothy 2:21 tells us that "whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean]--who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences-- will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work" (AMP).

Golden vessel or clay pot, the choice is up to you!

Why then do so many believers choose to do menial work in the kingdom of God? Why are they content to remain clay pots?

Because they lack one thing every golden vessel must have. They lack dedication. They haven't made a quality decision to separate themselves from contaminating influences. They haven't been willing to turn away from the ways of the world and go on with God past the point of no return.

My friend, God is doing some exciting things on this earth right now. He's working signs and wonders, paving the way for Jesus' return. This is a thrilling time, but it's definitely no time for clay pots! So if you haven't yet made the kind of commitment that will turn you into a golden vessel, admit it. Then take the time to get before God and study His Word and get your will in line with His. Let the Holy Spirit deal with you until you're willing to leave the ways of the world behind and walk in higher ways--the ways of God.

Do it now. The hour is late. The glory of God is spilling over the earth in one final thrilling wave. It's not trickling out of clay pots. It's being poured through golden vessels--and that's exactly what God is calling you to be.

Monday Readings - Prayer, Life's Limitless Reach

Prayer: Life's Limitless Reach by Jack Taylor

"....far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you.'"( 1 Samuel 12:23 )

As a believer your spiritual life will never rise above and stay above the level of your prayer.

In this fast paced world that we live in today many believers have found themselves in the place where their is little on no prayer in their life. Let it be know that prayerlessness is a sin, not just a weakness. Prayerlessness according to the author is a sin against God because God has commanded us to pray. All that God does, he does through prayer.

What is prayerlessness? It is when someone finds themselves in a place of praying less than they should, or than the Father desires. Prayerlessness like other sins may become strongholds in our lives, if left over time. We are told that we should pull down every stronghold. We have all been in a place where we have struggled in your prayer life for one reason or another, and even though we have repented, confessed, sought forgiveness and cleansing, after a short while we are back to a life of prayerlessness but its time to begin to pay close attention. If you are vacillating and can't seem to break free from the cycle, its time to deal with it as a stronghold in your life.

Do you enjoy praying, or do you find it boring and just a duty to perform? We often want the power of God without seeking him. but the truth is, we will not have the power, the miracles or boldness unless we prayed

When we go to pray we must go believing that what we are about to pray about will happen. The early church was very effective because they we devoted to prayer, and whenever they prayed the Spirit started moving. Their prayers were continuous, fervent and effective.

In this book Jack Taylor brings you to a place, where you see exactly where you are. This book compels you to stop reading and to pray. You get a renewed desire to pray. For too long all we have been talking about prayer but have not really been praying. Its time for us to keep God's command of prayer because "Nothing lies beyond the reach of Prayer, because nothing lies beyond the reach of God"

Monday Readings - Excellence in Attitude

This week I am reading about attitudes and how they affect our lives for good or bad. its is so very important for us to maintain a good attitude despite the circumstances and situations we face everyday.

Excellence in Attitude by Robb Thomson

"Do you want to push beyond mediocrity and attain excellence in every area of your life? If you do you must take inventory of the way you think. If you rule your mind, you will rule your life".

Proverbs 16:32 says, a person who can rule his own spirit is greater than he who can take a city.

Attitude is everything in the area of excellence. For too long we have bypassed poor attitudes and put it down to that's the way I am instead of dealing with it. Very often we take this stand because we don't want to take the time to deal with our bad attitudes. When you rule your attitudes, you rule your own heart, opening the way for God to work in your life.

The problem is that we want to fit in with the crowd, we want to be popular, but there comes a time when you will have to deal with the fact that we are no longer popular. We would rather allow things in our lives because we are afraid to go against the flow, afraid of being different. We have been called to be like Jesus not a cheap carbon copy of someone else.

A person of excellence believes that his attitude will determine how far he will go in life and so continually corrects himself when he realizes that he has done or said something wrong. He does not wait to be corrected by anyone, or allow himself to become complacent and think I can get away with this. When you are pursuing an excellent attitude you don't look at what other people are doing and says its okay I can do it too.

As we go after excellence the quality of our life will improve. Because we are to reaching for God's highest, we will strive to be everything He has called us to be.

" Your attitude whether good or bad will affect every individual you come into contact with"
When you have an excellent attitude you are always looking to help someone, not looking for what you can get out of the situation. If you are always looking for what you can get out of the relationship it will become stagnated and die. With an excellent attitude you will have a lasting positive effect on the individual.

A person with an excellent attitude is willing to change some things in their life so that they can be of benefit others. They don't say that's the way I am, you will have to live with that, take it or leave it. You must want the real thing, you don't want to pretend like you have it all together when It is not so.

James 3:17 says that the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and without hypocrisy..
A person with a good attitude is never a hypocrite, displaying a good attitude in front of people and criticizing them behind their backs. Nothing like the present moment to make the decision to become a person with an excellent attitude by dealing with the poor attitudes as you recognize them.

"I may not be able to change my world around me,
but I can change the world within me"

Repentance is a God given opportunity to enter into the blessings of the Lord and escape from the oppression of the enemy.
If you haven't ask Jesus into your heart as Savior and asked Him to forgive you of your sins, it is as simple as following these steps:

1) ADMIT YOU HAVE SINNED. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

2) BELIEVE IN JESUS. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

3) CONFESS AND LEAVE YOUR SIN. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)
